Aamir Khan and Tamil Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj to Team Up For a Superhero Film

Bollywood`s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, is set to venture into the superhero genre, confirming a massive collaboration with acclaimed Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj. This exciting project promises to be a large-scale action spectacle, marking a fresh and highly anticipated chapter in Khan`s illustrious career. The film is slated to begin production in the latter half of 2026.
Putting widespread speculation to rest, Aamir firmly denied any plans for a sequel to his 2014 hit, PK. "That`s a rumour. This is the first time I am hearing about it,” he stated.
However, he did confirm another significant project: a biopic on the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke. This film will see him reunite with his 3 Idiots and PK director, Rajkumar Hirani. "The Dadasaheb Phalke biopic is happening. Raju (director Rajkumar Hirani) and I are working on it," he confirmed. The superstar also spoke about his long-cherished dream of bringing the epic "Mahabharat" to the silver screen, mentioning that he is beginning the foundational work for the ambitious project.

A Superhero on the Horizon
The confirmation came directly from Aamir Khan during a recent media interaction. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for the project, which will see him join forces with Kanagaraj, the creative powerhouse behind Tamil blockbusters like Vikram and Leo. "Lokesh and I are doing a film together," Aamir revealed. "It`s a superhero film — a big-scale action outing. The film will begin in the second half of 2026. We have both signed it. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to Aamir Khan`s immediate next release, Sitaare Zameen Par, hitting theatres on June 20. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is described as a spiritual successor to his beloved 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par. In this new venture, Aamir plays a basketball coach tasked with mentoring a team of individuals with special needs.
