Border 2 banned in six Gulf countries, here`s why
As the buzz around Border 2 increases, the film faces a bit of a setback just before its global release. The Sunny Deol starrer is now banned in six Gulf countries. This follows after Dhurandhar was banned in some parts of the Middle East.
Border 2 becomes the first big film of 2026 to be banned in Gulf countries. Reports suggest the reason for the ban is because the film is perceived as high on `anti-Pakistan` emotion, the kind of content the six countries don`t support.
The ban comes a day before the war drama`s global release. However, makers of Border 2 aren`t worried much about the impact this move will have on the film`s box office performance.
Why is Border 2 banned in Gulf countries?
A source close to the development said to Bollywood Hungama, "Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE will not be releasing Border 2. By now, it`s given that films perceived as having `anti-Pakistan` content don`t get a release in this belt."
"Yet, the team of Border 2 did make an attempt, and sadly, their attempts proved futile. One day is left for release, and the hope is still there that they pass the film, though the possibility seems remote."

“Recently, even Dhurandhar was not allowed a release in the same region. However, the makers of Border 2 are not losing sleep over it, as they are aware that if the film manages to strike a chord with the moviegoers, the sky would be the limit in terms of its collections. Even Dhurandhar excelled at the ticket window, and the money lost due to no release in the UAE/GCC belt didn`t matter. Hopefully, Border 2 will go the same way,” the source added.
Notably, despite its magnanimous success in India, Dhurandhar also faced bans in several Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.
However, Border 2 and Dhurandhar are not the only two films to face this backlash from the Middle East. Many Bollywood films, like Sky Force, The Diplomat, Article 370, Tiger 3, and The Kashmir Files, also faced the same emotions.
Border 2 will see a theatrical release on January 23.
