Deepika & Vicky to lead Amar Kaushik’s Mahavatar
Deepika Padukone reportedly joins Vicky Kaushal in Mahavatar. The pair might clash in mythological fire on screen in Amar Kaushik’s epic film.
Bollywood watchers could be in for a treat — Deepika Padukone is in talks to share the frame with Vicky Kaushal for the first time ever, in the highly anticipated mythological drama Mahavatar directed by Amar Kaushik.
According to insiders, the filmmakers are looking for someone with “gravitas and emotional depth” to essay the female lead opposite Parashurama—and Deepika “fits that space perfectly.”
The discussions, though still in early stages, have positioned her among the “top names” that the studio is engaging with.

While Mahavatar centres on the immortal warrior Parashurama — portrayed by Vicky — those familiar with the project emphasise that the female lead isn’t merely ornamental.

In fact, the character is being shaped with “strong narrative weight”, ensuring that she holds a substantial arc. “Amar Kaushik has been clear from the beginning that the character must have equal footing in the narrative,” says a source.
If Deepika signs on, this would mark a first-time on-screen pairing with Vicky Kaushal, a combination that has already created buzz among fans and industry folk alike.
Mahavatar, produced by Maddock Films, promises to be a vast cinematic retelling of mythological lore. Vicky’s first look as the fierce, axe-wielding Parashurama — rugged, powerful, and immersed in ancient grandeur — has already sparked excitement.
Meanwhile, the film has had to delay its initial release plans; while it was slated for Christmas 2026, recent updates suggest it may now hit screens in 2027.
With the pairing of Deepika’s commanding screen presence and Vicky’s raw intensity, this collaboration could deliver a mythological saga unlike any we’ve seen before.
And for the director, who has spoken about the deeply personal resonance of this project, it could mark a bold new chapter beyond his horror-comedy roots.
As of now, there’s no official confirmation from the makers or the actors. But if talks materialise, Mahavatar may well deliver one of the most eagerly awaited debut onscreen pairings of recent times.
