Shah Rukh reportedly did not believe in the success of Lagaan. He rejected the offer by Ashutosh Gowariker, who then convinced Aamir Khan. Lagaan became a blockbuster hit.

Ashutosh Gowariker offered Shah Rukh the role of Akbar in the movie Jodhaa Akbar, but the actor was not comfortable with the location of the shooting and wanted to spend time with his family.

The role of Rancho was first offered to Shah Rukh but he rejected it and then the role went to Aamir Khan.
