Thug Life movie review: No shows in Karnataka
Thug Life, one of the most anticipated Tamil gangster dramas, released today on June 5, and the internet has been going crazy. The film saw a worldwide release except in Karnataka, thanks to Kamal Haasan`s Kannada comment.
However, this hasn`t affected the fan frenzy in other South Indian states, especially in Chennai, where Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan enjoy a massive fan following.
Amid the Bengaluru stampede tragedy where 11 people were killed, it became a task to manage the fanfare outside theatres in Chennai. With giant posters and cutouts of the actors in place, it was clear how much cinephiles were excited for Thug Life.
Chennai fans express excitement for Thug Life
Many Silambarasan (Simbu) fans were also seen in numbers to cheer for him. He plays a pivotal role in the movie. They were seen sporting T-shirts with his name printed.

Many moviegoers spoke to NDTV, which was in Chennai, and expressed their enthusiasm. One fan said, "I came all the way from Chengalpattu. I`m a Simbu fan and can`t wait to watch him in action."
Another young techie who was excited to watch Thug Life said, "The Mani-Kamal-Rahman combo is historic. The songs are already chartbusters. The movie will be a blockbuster."
Thug Life marks the much-celebrated reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, the iconic duo who have given fans some brilliant movies like Naayakan. AR Rahman`s music adds that extra dramatic effect with Trisha, Nassar, and Ashok Selvan elevating the film`s plot.
Another fan, who came with his family, exclaimed, "We came as a family. Kamal sir never fails. This movie will be a superhit."
Kamal Haasan`s Thug Life controversy
The Indian 2 actor sparked controversy with his "Kannada was born out of Tamil" comment. This enraged the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce, who protested against Thug Life`s release in the state.
However, Haasan refused to apologise and said his remarks were "out of love" and refused to apologise. "My comments were made out of love, not malice. I will not apologise," the actor said, asserting his constitutional right to freedom of expression.
Kamal Haasan He even mentioned that whatever he said was highly misunderstood and blown out of proportion.
“It pains me that my statement at the Thug Life audio launch — spoken out of genuine affection for the legendary Dr Rajkumar’s family, especially Shiva Rajkumar — has been misunderstood and taken out of context. My words were intended only to convey that we are all one and from the same family and not to diminish Kannada in any way,” he added.
