Vaani Kapoor has had a successful year in terms of commercial cinema. With Raid 2 becoming a critically acclaimed success, she is now gearing up to make her digital debut with Mandala Murders. The mythological murder mystery was released on Netflix on July 25.
The actress has been busy promoting her latest web series. In one of the interviews, she finally broke silence on her film Abir Gulaal`s ban amid the India-Pakistan tensions.
For the uninitiated, the Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan-led romantic drama was scheduled to release in May. However, following the cowardly Pahalgam terror attack, the nation demanded to ban any Bollywood movies starring Pakistani actors.
After resisting talking about the subject, the Befikre actress finally broke silence on the same.
Vaani Kapoor on Abir Gulaal ban
The actor faced a setback in her career after her romantic drama with Fawad Khan was banned amid Indo-Pak tensions. Abir Gulaal was scheduled to release in May 2025 and would`ve marked her first collaboration with the Pakistani star.
However, fate had some other plans, and the film never released, despite it being ready for a theatrical release. Now, Vaani shared what her mindset was during the sensitive situation.

“I don’t think anybody’s intention was to hurt anyone’s sentiment. The film was made to spread love; unfortunately, all it got was hate. But it was shot at a very different time. It’s unfortunate about the whole attack that happened, but the film was shot way earlier, when there were no issues," the diva said.
Vaani further added, "The producers took all the permissions that had to be taken. But after the attacks, all of us, the team and I, all respected and understood the sentiment of the nation. We always have abided by the laws; it’s nothing that one has become rogue and gone against what our laws expect us to do. One has put the sentiment of the nation first.”

The mythological murder mystery marks Kapoor`s first OTT stint. It also stars Surveen Chawla, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Shreya Pilgaonkar in prominent roles.

Talking about her OTT debut, the Shamshera actress said, “In films, you have only two to three hours where you have to create the arc, establish it, and lay out everything in that concise period of time. I was very intrigued coming into the long format, as it helps you explore as an actor. You get much more leverage to create more nuances and layers and get into the depth of everything.”
Mandala Murders is now streaming on Netflix.
