Actor Rajpal Yadav surrenders at Tihar Jail in cheque bounce case
Actor Rajpal Yadav has been hitting the headlines after he was arrested amid the cheque bounce cases in 2018. Now, the actor has surrendered before the Tihar Jail authorities after the Delhi High Court refused his request for an extension.
On Wednesday, the High Court refused to extend the deadline given to Yadav for surrendering to the jail authorities, as he failed to comply with earlier instructions.
A source told PTI, “He surrendered before the jail authorities at 4 pm on Thursday. Now the jail authorities will follow the standard operating procedure.”

The counsel for the actor, who was on February 2 directed to surrender on Wednesday at 4 PM, had mentioned in the court that Rajpal had arranged for a sum of Rs. 50 lakh but asked for a week`s extension.
However, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected the request for seeking an extension of time, saying there was no ground to grant him relief.
The Chup Chup Ke actor`s senior counsel said Yadav couldn`t surrender on Wednesday by 4 PM, as he was trying to arrange the money and reached Delhi at 5 PM.
The court did not buy the excuse and stated, “This court cannot be expected to show or create special circumstances for any person merely because such a person belongs to a particular background or industry. Leniency, though sometimes necessary, cannot be extended endlessly, especially when it is met with continued non-compliance.”
Rajpal Yadav physically appeared before the court for the proceedings. His senior lawyer assured the actor was ready to pay a demand draft of Rs. 25 lakhs to the complainant and also adhere to the payment schedule.
More about Rajpal Yadav`s cheque bounce case
It all started in 2018 when a complainant filed a case against the Bhagam Bhag actor and his wife after several cheques bounced and the payment failed to go through.
In 2019, Rajpal challenged the decision of a sessions court in a magistrate court. In 2024, the high court temporarily suspended his conviction, subject to him trying to adopt “sincere and genuine measures” to explore the possibilities of reaching an amicable settlement with the opposite party.
Back then, Yadav`s counsel said it was a genuine transaction he had done to produce a movie, which turned out to be a commercial disaster, resulting in huge financial losses.
The order passed by the court of Rajpal Yadav surrendering before the Tihar Jail authorities came after he repeatedly breached his undertakings.
