T20 cricket tournament suspended
Amid the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the ongoing T20 tournament has been suspended citing safety measures. The remainder of the tournament has been temporarily called off.
This decision comes amid the India-Pakistan war and follows a high-stakes meeting of the Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) top brass.
Radio City understands that various options, such as a possible change of venues, were taken into consideration before coming to this conclusion. A formal announcement is yet to be made, but the communication has been conveyed to all the franchises and other stakeholders.
The development comes close to Thursday`s suspended match between Punjab and Delhi in Dharamsala amid growing tensions and anxiety between India and Pakistan following the cowardly Pahalgam attack.

Spectators were evacuated in fear of a possible strike. Chairman Arun Dhumal was also seen helping in the evacuation process on Thursday. With all options on the table, the BCCI has opted for a temporary suspension of the tournament, keeping the best interests of all stakeholders and players in mind.
So far, 58 matches have been completed this season, including the abandoned game in Dharamsala. 12 league fixtures and four playoffs, including the finals in Kolkata, were yet to be played in venues like Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jaipur.
However, this isn`t the first time the T20 championship was suspended midway. In 2021, the tournament was postponed after a Covid-19 bubble breach, with the second phase later held in the UAE.
A senior BCCI player confirmed the developments and told PTI, "It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war." The suspension of the remainder of the season is in complete uncertainty. The 2025 T20 league was scheduled to end on May 25.
Chairman Arun Dhumal earlier stated that any further decisions regarding the tournament would be made in consultations with the government.
He said, "We are reviewing the situation. It`s evolving, and we haven`t received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind."
While the board has not announced any timeline for resuming the T20 tournament, a potential window between August and September can be explored.
