Tamil director Vikram Sugumaran passes away at 47
Popular Tamil filmmaker Vikram Sugumaran, who was best known for his critically acclaimed film Madha Yaanai Koottam, passed away on Monday in Chennai after he suffered a brutal cardiac arrest. He was 47 years old.
He was reportedly travelling from Madurai to his hometown after narrating a script to a producer when he experienced severe chest pain. Despite being rushed to the nearest hospital, doctors were unable to save him. Sugumaran succumbed to a cardiac arrest.
Sources close to the development revealed that Vikram was on his way to Chennai and was travelling in a bus when the incident occurred. He is survived by his wife and children.

Vikram Sugumaran began his career as an assistant director to the legendary director Balu Mahendra between 1999 and 2000. His first film, Madha Yaanai Koottam, garnered him several accolades for a gritty and raw rural story.
His last directorial was Raavana Kottam, headlined by Shanthanu Bhagyaraj in the lead role. Sugumaran had been working on a new project titled Therum Porum. Vikram also served as a co-writer for Vetrimaaran`s Aadukalam, the 2011 Tamil film starring Dhanush.
During a recent media interaction, the filmmaker revealed that he had faced many betrayals from the industry itself. However, he chose not to name any names, citing lack of solid evidence to support his claims.
As soon as the news of Vikram Sugumaran`s death spread across the internet, the Tamil film industry paid a heartfelt tribute to the director.
Actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj took to X (formerly Twitter) and penned a heartfelt note. He wrote, "#Rip, dearest brother. I`ve learnt so much from you & will always cherish every moment. Gone too soon. You will be missed. #RIPVikramSugumaran."

Music composer Justin Prabhakaran also remembered the director on his recent X post and wrote, "A filmmaker who dreamed beyond frames but left us too soon. Gone with countless stories untold. May your soul rest in peace, Vikram Sugumaran, sir."
