RIP MC Tod Fod: Swadesi`s Hip Hop Artist Passes Away At 24

Indian hip-hop industry loses one of its young gem - MC Tod Fod aka Dharmesh Parmar passed away on 20th March. Parmar was an integral part of he popular hip-hop crew Swadesi. Following a series of tributes and mournings on social media, Swadesi`s label Azadi Records and management company 4/4 Entertainment confirmed the news. The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed.
Tod Fod was India`s first Gujarati rapper, garnering a lot of fan followings by working with producer Bandish Projekt on songs like `Dakla` in 2016. Dakla was a aprt of their collaborative EP Katal Kalaa. Later, the producer collaborated once again for the song `Khule Naagde.`
A provocative demander of truth and justice, Tod Fod had a voice who revolted against enviornmental and human rights against corupt societal practices, as he called it. Swadesi, who came together in 2013, saw Tod Fod standing shoulder-to-shoulder with MC Mawali, producers like NaaR and Raakshas, and recent additions like 100 RBH and Maharya. Swadesi`s album in 2020 was a call of cry to increase the pressure on corporations, illogical practices of the society, and politicians. Krant Havi, a track from the album was fierce and ruthless.
The multi-lingual hip-hop artist was a part of several other singles right after, including Plandemic. His most recent single `Truth & Bass`, produced by DJ Chromederma and featuring rapper MC Solomon was released on 8th March.
MC Tod Fod`s sudden demise has sent the Indian hip-hop community into major grief and shock, with several other hip-hop artists mourning their peer`s death. “Rest in power brother man. See you on the other side. I remember meeting you on shows and always awestruck with your voice. This was unfair", Prabh Deep said. An official statement from Swadesi and its members is expected soon.
There was an adrenaline rush seeing MC Tod Fod perform live at Radio City Freedom Awards. Gone too soon, we will miss the young talent of our hip-hop community.
