Playing the super model Lingesan, Vikram's life changes when he develops a hunch-back because of a virus named 'I' injected into him by his enemies. He then sets on a mission to take revenge. The movie also stars Amy Jackson, Ojas Rajani, Upen Patel, and Suresh Gopi in pivotal roles. Introducing Ramayana with a modern-day twist, Veera (Vikram) is the leader of a tribal group and a naxalite in rural Thirunelveli. He is nicknamed as Ravana since he is a hero for his tribe but for the outsiders, a devil. Veera and his tribe attack the police officer Dev (Prithviraj Sukumaran) and his men. They end up kidnapping his wife Raagini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) whilst she was on a boat trip.Veera then narrates his story about how Dev killed his sister Vennila (Priyamani) on her wedding day and this is his revenge. Raagini slowly starts developing feelings for the tribal leader. Dev then finds him and fights to rescue his wife, leading to Veera's death.
Vikram portrayed a brilliant performance, which was applauded by many. A Mani Ratnam directorial, Raavanan, was also remade in Bollywood by the same director. With Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, and Vikram in the lead, the Bollywood version performed moderately well on the box office.
