Lee Seung-gi and Lee Da-in
South Korean superstar Lee Seung-gi and his wife, actress Lee Da-in, have announced a significant decision impacting their family life. Following renewed legal trouble for Lee Da-in`s stepfather, the couple has chosen to sever ties with her side of the family, a move Lee Seung-gi detailed in a heartfelt public statement.
"My father-in-law had been fined for his illegal activities in the past, but he has been indicted by the authorities once more. I cannot feel anything but remorse after having waited for the results with faith as a member of the family," Lee Seung-gi explained.
The trust within the family unit appears to be irrevocably broken. "It is now, after very long deliberation with my wife, that we will cut off all our ties with my wife`s side of the family," he declared. "All our trust as a family has been broken. We will arm ourselves with better judgement and pay our due to society."

This led to a 2018 sentence of four years in prison and a hefty 2.5 billion won fine. While an appeals court acquitted him in 2019, the Supreme Court later overturned this decision, sending the case back for retrial. Recently, reports emerged that Lee Hong-hun was arrested again, this time related to alleged stock manipulation involving a different company, Quantapia.
Lee Seung-gi also addressed past comments where he had defended his in-laws, stating, "Families are not to be messed with." He now expresses deep contrition for those remarks. "I am deeply regretful about my imprudent utterances, which were made without properly learning the issues surrounding my father-in-law," he admitted.
Emphasising accountability, Lee added, "All illegal activities must be punished accordingly. I am sincerely sorry to any victim who would have been hurt by my recklessness. I am sorry to everyone who trusted me and understood me." The couple, who married in April 2023 and welcomed their first child in February 2024, now seek to distance themselves from the controversy and focus on living responsibly. Lee Seung-gi concluded his statement by pledging to "live with more correct values and fulfill my responsibilities for a healthy society."
