Bollywood has a great way of representing biopics of characters that have had a historical impact on our society. Be it an army person, a politician, a sportsperson, or even an activist, it is about time Bollywood brought their stories to the audience in an unfiltered manner. 2023 is the year of biopics, and here are five such movies that you must watch out for.
1. Sam Bahadur - Vicky Kaushal
The movie is based on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, one of the bravest and most valiant armymen who served our country for nearly four decades. He was Chief of the Army Staff during the India-Pakistan War in 1971. Meghna Gulzar, who also directed Raazi, will be helming Sam Bahadur.Vicky Kaushal will be seen as Sam Manekshaw in the movie. His resemblance to the late field marshal is uncanny. The makers of the biopic have wrapped shooting. Sam Bahadur is likely to be released on December 1, 2023.
2. Taali - Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen will be seen narrating the real-life story of Gauri Sawant, a transgender social activist. The first look of the series has already garnered much appreciation. Talking about her biopic, Sawant said, "It is a mark of respect for us that a female actor is playing the role instead of a male actor, which we have seen happening in the past."
3. Chakda 'Xpress - Anushka Sharma
This biopic will shine a spotlight on the life of Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami. Headlined by Anushka Sharma, Chakda 'Xpress will mark her comeback after giving birth to her daughter Vamika.The movie will narrate how Goswami defied the misogynistic politics in Indian cricket and climbed the ladder of success to become the highest wicket-taker in Indian women's cricket.
4. Emergency - Kangana Rananut
Kangana Ranaut's multifaceted side will be seen in the movie as she directs, produces, and acts in Emergency as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie also features Bhumika Chawla, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhary, Satish Kaushik, and Shreyas Talpade in prominent roles.Kangana has aced the look of Indira Gandhi. Emergency is slated to release on November 24, 2023, in cinemas near you.
5. Main Atal Hoon - Pankaj Tripathi
Looking for an actor to camouflage with the real-life hero in a biopic? Pankaj Tripathi is your guy. The biopic on Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be headlined by the Mirzapur actor and is slated to release this Christmas.Talking about portraying the politician's role, Tripathi said, "It is an honor to portray such a humane politician on screen. He was not just a politician but so much more; he was an excellent writer and a renowned poet. Getting to be in his shoes is nothing but a privilege for an actor like me."
