Gadar 2 Actress Ameesha Patel Recalls When Sanjay Leela Bhansali Told Her To Retire

Ameesha Patel is currently soaring high on the success of Gadar 2. The movie is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which starred Sunny Deol and Ameesha in the leading roles. As the latest release continues to receive rave reviews, the actress recalled the time when a popular filmmaker asked her to retire after the release of Gadar.

In a recent interview, Ameesha Patel spoke at length about how she is basking in the success of Gadar 2. She reunited with her on-screen lover, Sunny Deol. The two brought back the romance of Tara Singh and Sakeena after almost two decades.


During the same interview, Ameesha recalled when Sanjay Leela Bhansali asked her to retire right after the release of her film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.

'Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, after watchingGadar, wrote a really beautiful letter, a complimentary letter to me. And when I had a meeting with him, he said, 'Ameesha, you should retire now.' I said, 'Why?' He said, 'Because you've already achieved in two films what most people don't achieve in their entire career. Once in a lifetime, aMughal-e-Azam, aMother India, aPakeezah, andaSholaygets made. You had it in your second film. So what's next?' I didn't understand it at that time because I was a kid, so new to the film world," said Ameesha.

She also compared her superhit films that released after the 2001 blockbuster.

'Gadarset the bar so high that anything in my films that were superhits after that, whether it wasHumraaz(2002),Bhool Bhulaiyaa(2007) orHoneymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.(2007), it was a straight comparison toGadar," said the actress.

The Anil Sharma directorial is currently running successfully in theatres. Gadar 2 has already collected over Rs. 400 crore at the box office. The movie revolves around a love story that was borh amid the brutal India-Pakistan partition. Tara Singh and Sakeena fall in love but are stuck in the societal dilemma of caste differences.
