This year seems to be all about celebrating love, laughter, and happily ever after. Speaking of which, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend, Zaheer Iqbal. The two have been dating for the past seven years.

For the uninitiated, the groom made his Bollywood debut with the 2019 release, Notebook. The film was a box-office disappointment, but Zaheer's performance was lauded by many.

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal married in an intimate ceremony on Sunday, June 23, at the actress's Mumbai residence in the presence of their close friends and family. It was a registered one under the Special Marriage Act. The two completed all the formalities and are officially married.

While some trolled her for getting into an interfaith marriage, others came in support of the Dabangg star. Now, many fans and followers are wondering whether Sonakshi will convert to Islam or continue following her religion.

For those who have observed, the Lootera actress has always been tight-lipped about her personal life. While the couple had been dating for the past seven years, they never openly accepted or denied their relationship.

After making it official by marrying each other, Sonakshi and Zaheer's union marked yet another interfaith marriage in Bollywood, after Swara Bhasker and Kareena Kapoor.

The recent Bollywood wedding has left fans and movie buffs wondering whether Sonakshi Sinha will turn to Islam after marrying Zaheer Iqbal.

Before their wedding, the groom's father commented on the rituals being followed at the ceremony and even revealed whether the Heeramandi star would change her religion or not.

In a conversation with the Free Press Journal, Iqbal Ratansi said, "It will have neither Hindu nor Muslim rituals. It will be a civil marriage."

"She is not converting, and that is for sure. Theirs is a union of hearts, and religion has no role to play whatsoever. I believe in humanity. God is called Bhagwan by Hindus and Allah by Muslims. But at the end of the day, we are all human beings. My blessings are with Zaheer and Sonakshi," he added.

For those who weren't updated, speculation was that the legendary actor-turned-politician wouldn't attend his daughter's wedding due to religious differences between him and his now-son-in-law.

However, Shatrughan's presence at the ceremony and seeing the bride all excited and happy rubbished the rumors. A close friend of the veteran actor shared an update about the wedding.


Shashi Ranjan, a close family friend of the Sinha's, said, "She (Sonakshi) is getting married to the man with whom she is in love. Everybody is participating, and Shatru Ji's brothers are also coming from America for the wedding. The registered marriage will take place at Zaheer Iqbal's house. It is a very happy moment for me and the family."

A couple of days before the wedding, Shatrughan Sinha confirmed his presence and dismissed all the rumors of him missing out on the celebrations.

In a chat with Zoom, the Dostana actor said, "Tell me, whose life is it anyway? It's just the life of my only daughter, Sonakshi, whom I am very proud of and immensely fond of. She calls me the pillar of her strength. I will be there at the wedding, certainly. Why shouldn't I, and why won't I?"

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaher Iqbal hosted a star-studded reception at Mumbai's Bastian on Sunday. The who's who of Bollywood was seen gracing the event.
