Shalmali: 2020 was a year of personal reflection for me

Popular Bollywood playback singer turned independent singer/songwriter Shalmali spoke to Team Radio City recently, over an interaction as part of the Artist of the Month activity where she confessed about how the imposed lockdown in 2020, following the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, gave her a chance to introspect upon her career and eventually helped her in releasing a full-length album in English.
'I thank the circumstances that led me to this decision because I would tell people around me for the longest time that I was working upon my English music and that I would put out something soon. Especially to those people who've known me since college because they knew I had an inclination towards English music. But I couldn't materialise on what I wanted to put out and how. 2020 really gave me the time to ask myself, if this is really something I want to do. Is this something that will speak about my musical identity? I immediately realised that this who I am and this is what I want to do.'
The 31-year old singer/songwriter released her six-track EP '2X Side A' which features songs about love, loss and self-discovery. The album is winning hearts across the board with many fans hailing her for her hit collab 'Here is Beautiful' with Sunidhi Chauhan.
