Snap Inc., the parent company of multimedia messaging platform Snapchat has launched Snapchat Sounds Creator Fund to support and fund independent Indian artists. Starting November, Snap will provide monthly grants of upto USD 50,000 to indie artists distributing music through Distrokid. Distrokid is a digital music distributon platform which enables artists to distribute their legally obtained music to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music and also to social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. Snap has parternered with Distrokid to facilitate the payout of USD 2,500 to up to 20 artists per month. Snapchat has a feature called Sounds which enables creators to use authorized music. Over 2.7 billion videos on Snapchat have been made utilising music from Sounds since the service's introduction, and those videos have received over 183 billion global views.

The move is in line with Snap's policy to work with local content creators. According to the company, Indian independent artists are crucial to generating new video content, influencing online trends and creating cultural moments on Snapchat. The app has a subscriber base of more than 100 million and enjoys growing popularity amogst the Gen Z's.

Snapchat Sounds Creator Fund went live ij the US in August this year.
