Veteran Malayalam actor Jayasurya has found himself at the center of a controversy after being accused of sexual misconduct by a female colleague. The accusations, stemming from incidents allegedly occurring during filming in 2008, have sparked a legal battle. The actor has firmly denied the claims, labelling them as "fabricated."

Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

On Tuesday, the Kerala police interrogated Jayasurya as part of an ongoing investigation into a sexual harassment case filed by a female colleague. The accusations relate to an incident in 2008, when the actor allegedly "outraged the modesty" of the woman on a film set inside the Kerala government Secretariat. Following this, Jayasurya was summoned to the Cantonment police station in Thiruvananthapuram, where his statement was recorded.

This is not the first time Jayasurya has faced such allegations. A second case was registered against him for an alleged molestation incident on a film set in Thodupuzha between 2012 and 2013. These accusations coincided with the release of the Justice Hema Committee Report, which highlights the challenges faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.

Jayasurya's Public Response

Following his police interrogation, Jayasurya addressed the media and firmly denied all the allegations against him. He stated, 'I completely deny the allegations. This is a fabricated case. I don't even need anticipatory bail.' He also expressed concern about the growing trend of false accusations, saying, 'At least I have a platform to make my case. Many others don't do this. It could destabilise many families.'

The actor also pointed out inconsistencies in the accusations, stating that one of the alleged incidents took place in 2013 on the sets of Pigman, a film that was completed in 2011. He questioned how the accuser could claim the event occurred in Thodupuzha when the movie was shot in Koothaatthukulam.

Legal Battle and the Actor's Resolve

Despite his public denials, the Kerala High Court had earlier dismissed Jayasurya's bail plea. The court observed that the charges against him were serious and merited further investigation. In response, the Kerala government has appointed a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly probe the claims. Additionally, new charges have been filed under Section 354 of the IPC, which deals with sexual harassment, and Section 354C, which pertains to voyeurism.

Jayasurya remains defiant and determined to fight the allegations. He stated, 'I will fight this legally until the accusations against me are proven false. I believe I am a living martyr.' He further called attention to how false allegations can damage a person's reputation, saying, 'Let this be the last time this happens. Let me be the living martyr in this case.'
