Ratan Tata Passes Away Of Prolonged Illness At 86, India Mourns Its Icon`s Loss

The day started with a heavy heart after the country learned about its icon, Ratan Tata's, death. The businessman and philanthropist passed away at the age of 86 after suffering from prolonged illness. It was on Monday when the industrialist shared his health update on social media, assuring his fans and followers about him being in good shape.

Ratan Naval Tata was the emeritus chairman of one of India's biggest conglomerates, Tata Sons. He molded the Tata Group in his own successful way by venturing into several industries, from salt to steel to software to automobiles and aviation.

He had been undergoing treatment for the past few days for a prolonged illness. However, we still don't know the exact cause of his death. Tata breathed his last in Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital on late Wednesday night.

India's legendary industrialist and business tycoon, Tata, comes from a simple Parsi Zoroastrian family. He was born on December 28, 1937, to parents Naval Tata and Sooni Tata.

Throughout his career as a businessman and a philanthropist, he has touched millions of lives with his contribution to humanity, animal welfare, investing in startups, and much more.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, announced in a late-night statement on Wednesday the heartbreaking news of Ratan Tata's death, hailing the industrialists's unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation.

"It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation," said Mr. Chandrasekaran.

He called Mr. Tata a mentor, guide, and friend and said that he was beyond a chairperson for the Tata Group.

Chandrasekaran further added, "He inspired by example. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, the Tata Group under his stewardship expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass."

Narendra Modi mourns Ratan Tata's death

As soon as the news about his passing away broke, tributes and condolences poured over from the industry and beyond. India's

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (forrnerly known as Twitter) and hailed the business tycoon as "a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being."

"Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India's oldest and most prestigious business houses," Modi's tweet read.

He shared a picture with the late Ratan Tata and further wrote, "At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to making our society better."

Mukesh Ambani calls Ratan Tata's death a personal loss

Along with Modi, many other Indian industrialists and entrepreneurs paid tribute to the late legend.

Mukesh Ambani hailed Ratan Tata as one of India's most illustrious and kindhearted sons. In a statement, he expressed, "It is a very sad day for India and India Inc. Ratan Tata's passing away is a big loss, not just to the Tata Group but to every Indian."

"At a personal level, the passing of Ratan Tata has filled me with immense grief as I lost a dear friend," Ambani said, adding his interactions with him "enhanced my respect for the nobility of his character and the fine human values he embodied."

The industrialist's deaths is certainly the end of an era, but the legacy shall forever continue. Rest in peace, Ratan Tata. The world will miss a fine gentleman like you.
