One of the shows where the film industry goes all out on being candidly controversial is Karan Johar's show, Koffee With Karan. While many controversies brewed on the couch, what stayed with us was Emraan Hashmi's comment on Aishwarya Rai.
When you think of the rapid fire rounds from all eight seasons of Koffee With Karan, very few guests had steamy and spicy answers. One of them was Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt.
The uncle-nephew pair graced the couch on the fourth season of the talk show. As per the rituals, the show went on smoothly until it hit the rapid-fire round. The two celebrities were unabashedly candid and honest. Anything for the hamper, right?
That's what the Murder actor thought until his answer became an overnight controversy, for which he still has to bear the brunt.
Emraan Hashmi - Aishwarya Rai controversy
Once a celerbated poster boy of a serial kisser, Hashmi is now trying his hands on different genres, making content the hero. His film choices in the past five years are a testament to the same.However, his movies aren't the only thing he is famous for. His outspoken and overtly honest nature has raised many eyebrows, and the ninth episode of Koffee With Karan 4 is proof.
Among the many remarks he made, his one comment on the global beauty Aishwarya Rai attracted immense backlash and criticism.
During the rapid fire round, Emraan Hashmi was asked who comes to mind when he hears the word 'plastic.' His instant answer was the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress.
When Emraan Hashmi justified his comment on Aishwarya Rai
During the promotions of his digital debut, Showtime, the actor opened up on the entire fiasco and said his comment was 'in jest' and he was never apologetic about speaking his mind.Talking to Galatta India, Emraan said, 'I say things the way they are, and that was the running joke in that episode. Things were in jest, and it was for the hamper. Everything was fun.'

He said back in the day, people were rather freer and open-minded. He also shared his thoughts on how cynicism has taken over both society and social media.
'I don't know if I would say it right now, in today's culture and today's environment. I don't think there was so much critique and cynicism. There's a certain cynical attitude also in society that you see reflected on social media now,' he added.
Emraan Hashmi also pointed out how if one thing goes against people's sentiments, they create a huge uproar about it, but this wasn't the case a few years ago.
'People will jump on you. They will bash you if you say anything that's opposed to their point of view or their ideology. And I think that was not the case so many years ago. I don't know if we're going on the right path or the wrong path, but this is the world we are living in,' he mentioned.
The Tiger 3 star further said he has never been apologetic about the statement and added, 'But I have never been apologetic about what I have said before or never will be in the future.'
